This year’s World Media Summit, hosted by Xinhua New Agency, will achieve great successes built upon the previous ones in helping increase coordination among various media outlets, Jamil Ghadaireh Al-Baramawi, director of Institutional Development and Training at Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency noted.
AMMAN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) — The ongoing fifth World Media Summit presents “a golden opportunity” to “reach the best means for using digital media,” said Jamil Ghadaireh Al-Baramawi, director of Institutional Development and Training at Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency.
Amid an accelerating media and telecommunication revolution, the media, especially social media, have a major role to play and impact various global decisions, Al-Baramawi told Xinhua in a recent interview.
He believes that the revolution must be harnessed to serve the rapprochement among peoples and civilizations, and the future of the world.
“This summit will enable the exchange of successful experience in using emerging technologies to fight rumors and misinformation and deliver truths to people,” he said, adding that the summit over the past years has indeed helped and encouraged media outlets to share their best practices and expertise.
Regarding enhancing media cooperation, Al-Baramawi pointed out that the summit plays a major role in bringing together different viewpoints.
“Given the current global conditions, media outlets have to unite and understand the problems and challenges they are experiencing and come up with solutions together that will help humanity,” he said.
This year’s summit, hosted by Xinhua New Agency, will achieve great successes built upon the previous ones in helping increase coordination among various media outlets, Al-Baramawi noted.
Speaking of Jordan’s state-run agency, Al-Baramawi said Petra is proud of its partnership with all news agencies, whether at the Arab level or the global level.
“Cooperation between Petra and Xinhua will strengthen bilateral relations between the two and facilitate news exchange,” he added.■
