In this meeting Dr. Christos Chryssakis, Business Development Manager at DNV GL – Maritime and Martin Hees, International Sales Manager at Aquametro Oil & Marine will present on Global Sulphur Cap 2020 vs. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction: Short vs. Long Term Challenges for Shipping and Safe, Efficient and Environmental Friendly Ship Operations by Fuel Management and SOx – Emissions Control respectively.

A summary of both presentations is found below:

Global Sulphur Cap 2020 vs. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction: Short vs. Long Term Challenges for Shipping

The global sulphur cap enters into force on 1 January 2020, and more than 70,000 ships will be affected by the regulation. The time to implementation is short and uncertainty over the availability of various fuel products makes the transition more challenging. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and the best option very much depends on vessel type, size of vessel, operational patterns. Good preparation, risk assessment, adequate planning for each individual vessel, including any hardware updates and tank cleaning, bunkering strategy, and good collaboration between owners and charterers are key elements for ensuring a smooth transition towards 2020.

At the same time, the IMO has agreed on an ambitious strategy for reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from shipping by half by 2050, with an intermediate target of reducing the average carbon intensity of the fleet by 40\% by 2030.

This presentation will

  1. Cover the latest developments related to the global sulphur cap, including expected implications for the industry.
  2. Discuss solutions for reaching the 2030 IMO target as well as the latest market trends in terms of alternative marine fuels uptake.

Safe, Efficient and Environmental Friendly Ship Operations by Fuel Management and SOx – Emissions Control

The new legislation for marine fuels on sulphur cap as well EU and IMO regulations for MRV, Ballast Water Management and others will require action measurements and investments for all ship owners in worldwide business. The actual market earnings seldom give room on budgets for all necessary investments. But compliance with market demands is the basic for all businesses. The company AQUAMETRO Oil & Marine has answers, provides solutions and assistance to become fit for those new challenges for all owners worldwide.

Treatment of fuel will be one the most important challenges in future for ship owners. Not only the refinery process itself is heavily impacted but also changes on the market for blending and trading of fuel will questionnaire bunkered fuels qualities in future. How to be prepared for those new challenges of the market?

Sample analyses perhaps to late o don’t show all details like fuel basic staff, chemicals etc. Actual “Houston fuel case” have a preliminary impression on what to expect. Simultaneously market requirements and certain expectation on safety of vessel operation and compliance with rules and regulations like ECA/SECA zones, MRV or future exhaust monitoring in combination with enhanced performance monitoring will challenge all ship owners. Saving of cost is still the main driver but transparency on safety and secured controlled operation with the footprint on world’s environment becoming more and more valid. Sustainability is one of the main topics today. What does it mean for daily operations on vessels?
