Project Connect Opens 2026 with a Dynamic Call to “Knowledge & Clarity”

19.01.2026

Project Connect opened 2026 with its annual Kick Start event on January 14th, bringing together pupils, educators, maritime professionals, and supporters under the inspiring theme Knowledge + Clarity = Progress. The gathering encouraged students to embrace learning, ask bold questions, and make thoughtful choices that shape their future.

Hosted at the American Community Schools in Chalandri, the event began with a warm welcome from ACS President Dr. Peggy Pelonis, who spoke about the power of knowledge and clarity before introducing Project Connect Founder Irene Notias. Ms. Notias, who created the KickStart concept in 2020 to offer hope and connection during the pandemic, presented Project Connect’s expanding maritime education initiatives, including the Adopt a Ship and Niata Psila youth empowerment programs.

Students participating in Adopt a Ship shared heartfelt letters exchanged with their captains, offering a glimpse into the meaningful impact of maritime mentorship. Former Ambassador George Tsunis delivered the keynote address, inspiring students with his personal journey in America and encouraging them to broaden their horizons through global experiences and programs like Adopt a Ship.

Life Coach Michalis Fragkiadakis of FOS Breakthrough followed with an engaging talk on critical thinking and self‑awareness, sparking an interactive discussion with pupils. Students then shared their New Year’s resolutions, reinforcing the event’s message of clarity, intention, and forward momentum.

In closing, Ms. Notias and Dr. Pelonis expressed gratitude to the speakers, students, partners, and ACS, and highlighted upcoming activities that will continue to build momentum throughout the year.

The Kick Start event serves as a launchpad for young people to begin the year with purpose, direction, and actionable goals. By nurturing curiosity and connecting education with real‑world maritime experiences, Project Connect continues to empower the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and global citizens. This year also marks the launch of the Only Good News Youth Podcast and the submission of a proposal to the Ministry of Education for a National Maritime Week in Schools, supported by a full program designed by Academic Dr. Adamantia Spanaka, Project Connect’s Educator Consultant.

Project Connect welcomes new members to join its network of prestigious shipping companies, united in strengthening maritime awareness and professional readiness in today’s youth through firmly established, authorized programs such as Adopt a Ship.
