Athens, November 13, 2025 – The collaboration between ETME and Salamis Shipyards with the Ministry of National Defence moves into the implementation phase, with the commencement of construction and assembly works for the unmanned floating maritime surveillance platform USSPS (Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platform for Maritime Surveillance).

The project is carried out under the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP), in cooperation with the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Ministry of National Defence, marking the start of the production phase of a flagship European defence and technology programme. The project is funded by the European Union, Greece, and Cyprus.

With the signing of the contract for the provision of steel equipment (Hull and Piping), implementation works for the platform began immediately, including, among others, the construction of the main deck, the floats/columns. The completion and operation of the platform in the Myrtoan Sea is scheduled for April 2026.

The project is a characteristic example of the ability of the Greek Defence Industry to contribute to shaping national and European defence through innovation, collaboration, and technological excellence, confirming Greece’s active and substantial participation in European R&D (Research and Development) programmes.

The implementation of the project at Salamis Shipyards is a vote of confidence in the capabilities of the Greek shipbuilding industry. With many years of experience, specialized personnel, and cutting-edge know-how, Salamis Shipyards undertakes the construction of the main structure of the platform, strengthening the domestic production chain.

The project is the result of international cooperation between leading European organizations, contributing to the promotion of European technological autonomy in the field of defence.

Naval Group, as the technical coordinator of the project, ensures technical excellence as well as the transfer of know-how to ETME, practically implementing the European vision for substantial cooperation between defence primes and innovative SMEs.

As ETME’s CEO, Mr. Antonios Peppas, points out: “The start of the construction of the USSPS platform is an important milestone for the Greek defence industry. It is a project that proves in practice that Defence R&D programmes do not remain on paper, but lead to tangible results, creating new capabilities for the Armed Forces and the Greek State, with economic activity spreading throughout society.

The President of Salamis Shipyards, Dr. Georgios Koros, stated: “The collaboration with ETME and our participation in the USSPS programme is a tangible recognition of the expertise, experience, and quality of the work of Salamis Shipyards.
