“Global Service, local touch. Your ship is our priority” was the theme of the presentation of the American P&I Club that was presented at The Piraeus Marine Club in Athens on Thursday 4 December. The event was opened by Joanna Koukouli, LL.M. Co-Global Claims & Managing Director of the American P&I Club and was attended by its friends and members. She specifically emphasized that “The goals of the American P&I Club remain clear and are none other than to provide transparency, stability and excellent services without risks”. At the same time, Dorothea Ioannou, Chief Executive Officer – E.V.P. of the American Club, noted, among other things, that “After the coronavirus, we took drastic measures and adapted to new realities. More specifically, through a dynamic and targeted process for better results and with new systems, we renewed and expanded the fleet we manage”. As she added, in 2025 and beyond, the American P&I Club has been and will continue to be characterized by steady positive growth, with a significant voice in the industry, dedication, provision of solutions, accessibility, flexibility, transparency and collaboration with all its members. From his part, Daniel A. Tadros, J.D. Chief Operating Officer – E.V.P. of the American Club, referred to the dedication of the team and how it managed critical issues faced by ships, such as the tugboats “Aigaio Pelagos” & “Panormitis” that assisted the tanker “Sounion” which was on fire after an attack and causing an environmental disaster. At the end, Pavlos Xiradakis, President of the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association of Tugs expressed his appreciation and thanks for the honor bestowed upon him by the American P&I Club.

Among them was Ralph Clammah, CEO & Co-founder of Blacklight AI, who referred to maritime cybersecurity, emphasizing that the future is ominous. Then Mariana Katsimicha, Claims Executive of the American P&I Club, focused on the European Emissions System and risk management. At the same time, Peter McNamee, Partner at Preston Turnbull LLP, referred to marine fuels and what their future is, as well as Dr. William Moore, Global Loss Prevention Director at the American P&I Club, analyzed the new shipping datas and figures. Finally, Daniel A.Tadros, J.D., Chief Operating Officer – E.V.P. of the American P&I Club talked about the ISM code that shipping companies must comply with.

Our guest of honor and keynote speaker was H.E. Koichi Ito, Ambassador of Japan to Greece. General Secretary Christos Timagenis welcomed the guests and moderated the event while President Costis Frangoulis took the floor first, with his address.

John Inglessis, President of Samos Steamship, shared his experience from decades of collaboration with Japanese shipyards and suppliers and introduced the Ambassador.

HEMEXPO’s President Eleni Polichronopoulou received a special award, recognizing the growth and achievements of the Greek marine equipment manufacturers.

Maritime historian George Foustanos, author of the book “Made in Japan” also shared his insights before concluding our event with an engaging Q&A session between Ambassador Ito and our guests.
