08 June 2026. PPA S.A. announces with great satisfaction its cooperation with the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association – HELMEPA, supporting the creation of the new “HELMEPA HOME” in Piraeus, a space dedicated to the sea, the marine environment, education, and the younger generation.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, the Deputy CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Panagiotis Tsonis, the Chairperson of HELMEPA, Ms. Semiramis Paliou, and the Director General of HELMEPA, Ms. Olga Stavropoulou, marking a collaboration with meaningful social and environmental impact.

As part of this initiative, PPA S.A. is granting HELMEPA the use of premises at the Kastraki building in Drapetsona, making a meaningful contribution to the creation of a new, open home for the Association’s activities and programmes. The choice of Piraeus and the wider port zone carries strong symbolic value, connecting HELMEPA’s mission with the heart of Greek shipping and with a port that serves as a point of reference for the country.

The new “HELMEPA HOME” aspires to become a vibrant space for knowledge, environmental awareness, and participation. It will welcome students, young people, educators, seafarers, shipping professionals, and citizens, helping to deepen understanding of the value of the sea and the need to protect it.

For HELMEPA, this new home creates significant opportunities for the further development of its public-benefit work. It enables the Association to strengthen its educational programmes, broaden its engagement with the younger generation, and acquire a space worthy of its longstanding contribution to the protection of the marine environment.

The cooperation between PPA S.A. and HELMEPA is founded on shared values: respect for the sea, environmental responsibility, education, and service to society. Through this initiative, the two organisations join forces in support of a purpose with meaningful social and environmental impact.

The CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, stated:

“For PPA S.A., supporting HELMEPA’s work is an initiative of particular value. The sea lies at the core of our activity, but also of Piraeus’ identity. Through the creation of the new ‘HELMEPA HOME’, we are contributing to the establishment of a space that will promote knowledge, environmental awareness, and love for the sea, especially among younger generations. We are pleased to support an organisation with such an important and longstanding contribution.”

The Chairperson of HELMEPA, Ms. Semiramis Paliou, stated:

“We envisioned a space where people of all ages connect with the sea. A space that brings together our work, our people, and our history under one roof. A space for ocean literacy, for the protection of the sea, for our maritime heritage. Today, this becomes a reality. HELMEPA HOME belongs to every member, every volunteer, every seafarer who has stood by us. We are grateful to PPA S.A. for its trust and for the cooperation that has brought us to this milestone. Through its presence, the Port of Piraeus becomes part of a legacy for Greek society, for marine life, and for our blue planet.”

With the support of PPA S.A., the new “HELMEPA HOME” will further strengthen Piraeus’ connection with the sea, environmental education, and social contribution, highlighting the importance of cooperation for a more sustainable future.

On March 31st, an activation drill of the PPA Spillage Contingency Plan was conducted at the Cruise Terminal of PPA S.A., simulating a sea pollution incident.

The exercise was carried out following a directive issued by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, as part of the implementation of preparedness exercises at a national level.

At the Port of Piraeus, the emergency response drill was organized in cooperation with Antipollution SA and simulated an oil spill response scenario involving a cruise vessel.

During the exercise, emergency response equipment was deployed and operated, including antipollution floating barriers, skimmers, and containment booms. A floating containment barrier was also deployed around the cruise vessel, supported by the response vessels Orca, Eco Wave, and Fighter.

The drill was successfully completed, with all prescribed procedures implemented as planned.

Such initiatives play an important role in strengthening coordination, operational readiness, and environmental protection capabilities across the maritime sector.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, 4 April, 155 electric buses manufactured by Yutong were successfully received and unloaded by Piraeus Port Authority staff at the Port’s Car Terminal. Of these, 125 will be added to the fleet of OSY S.A. (Athens Urban Transport Organization), while the remaining 30 are destined for Serbia.

The buses were received at the Port of Piraeus by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Konstantinos Kyranakis, the Secretary General of Transport, Mr. Stelios Sakaretsios, the CEO of OSY S.A., Mr. Stefanos Agiasoglou, and on behalf of PPA S.A., the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Angelos Karakostas.

As Mr. Karakostas stated, “the Port of Piraeus reaffirms its role as a vital link in the supply chain, and operating around the clock, 365 days a year, it is ready to respond with speed and high-level services even to the most demanding cargo. We are particularly pleased when the cargo we are called upon to handle comes to contribute to improving the quality of life of Greek citizens, as is the case with these electric buses.”

02 April 2026. Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA S.A.) has strengthened the first-aid equipment of the Hellenic Coast Guard as part of its ongoing contribution to enhancing safety and protecting human life within port facilities.

More specifically, PPA S.A. donated seven portable defibrillators to the Hellenic Coast Guard, with the aim of further enhancing the operational readiness of its personnel and enabling the immediate response to emergency incidents.

The defibrillators are intended to be placed in Coast Guard service vehicles and motorcycles, so that first aid can be provided immediately to citizens and visitors within port facilities whenever and wherever needed.

This initiative is fully aligned with the guidelines of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy regarding the modernization and strengthening of first-aid equipment, reaffirming PPA S.A.’s commitment to making a meaningful contribution to upgrading the resources available to the Coast Guard.

As part of the donation, a presentation and hands-on training session was also carried out for Coast Guard personnel on the proper use of the defibrillators and the basic procedures of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ensuring the effective use of the equipment in real emergency conditions.

This new donation follows the recent delivery of six motorcycles to the Hellenic Coast Guard, as part of the broader and long-standing cooperation between PPA S.A. and the Coast Guard of the Port of Piraeus, with the aim of strengthening their operational capabilities and protecting human life.

PPA S.A. recognizes the vital role of the Hellenic Coast Guard in protecting citizens, safeguarding maritime transport, and ensuring the smooth operation of port facilities, and remains firmly committed to providing tangible support to its work.

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. announced its financial results for fiscal year 2025, reporting record-high revenue and EBITDA, as well as strong performance across its key business segments.

Total revenue amounted to €250.8 million, increased by 8.6% or €19.9 million compared to 2024. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached €132.3 million, marking an increase of 2.2%, while profit after tax amounted to €86.2 million, down by 1.5%. The results confirm the company’s strong resilience in a period of significant challenges. At the same time, cash and cash equivalents stood at €149.8 million as of 31 December 2025.

Management is proposing a dividend distribution of €1.896 per share, broadly in line with the corresponding dividend of €1.92 per share in 2024. The company maintains a stable dividend policy, distributing 55% of net profit as a return to shareholders.

Across the individual business segments, the cruise sector recorded a new all-time high in passenger traffic and revenue, which increased by 24.8%. Strategic planning and targeted partnerships further strengthened Piraeus’ position as a leading cruise hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The car terminal posted a slight revenue decrease of 5.4%, due to extraordinary storage revenues recorded in 2024. Significant increase was displayed in transshipment cargo, which rose by 17.6%, highlighting the segment’s competitiveness.

Pier I, which is directly managed by PPA S.A., recorded a 17.0% increase in revenue, as a result of higher cargo throughput, and for the first time in its history reported net profitability. Piers II and III recorded a 10.8% increase in revenue despite lower throughput, particularly in the second half of the year. Overall, activity in the container terminals demonstrated notable resilience, significantly increasing the total revenue of Piers I, II and III, despite the ongoing impact of the Red Sea crisis, which has kept the route via the Suez Canal closed.

In the ferry shipping sector, revenue decreased by 28.4% due to the reduction in port fees from May 2025, following a relevant request by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, aimed at maintaining ferry ticket prices, and in response to PPA S.A.’s positive contribution within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility. The number of passengers and vehicles increased once again, confirming Piraeus’ crucial role as a key pillar of domestic ferry services and of the connectivity between mainland Greece and the islands.

The ship repair zone maintained strong activity in 2025; however, total revenue from ship repair operations declined by 7.2%, mainly due to the four-month maintenance shutdown of one of the docks.

The CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, stated:

“The year 2025 confirmed the Company’s steady growth trajectory, delivering strong financial and operational performance. Despite a challenging international environment, we achieved new positive results, while continuing to invest systematically in the future of the port. This demonstrates the strength of our strategy and the dedication of PPA employees.

The ESPO Award on Social Integration of Ports is entering its 18th edition in 2026, and this year’s theme is “Dual-Use Port-City Projects.”

Both the port and the city need space to develop and meet the challenges of their growing roles and changing responsibilities. On top of that, both ports and cities need each other to realise their ambitions. Beyond being multimodal hubs connecting Europe’s economy and society to the world, ports play a crucial role in Europe’s energy transition, energy security, and military preparedness, requiring state-of-the-art infrastructure, new investments, and additional space. Meanwhile, European cities are growing, facing housing challenges, needing new energy sources and supply, and seeking to provide citizens with sufficient space for culture, education, leisure, and nature.

With the 2026 edition of the ESPO Award, ESPO seeks to give the award to a port managing bodies that has developed port infrastructure and space in such a way that it serves the port function(s) for which it was designed while also allowing the use of the infrastructure for a certain use or function by the city, either simultaneously or complementarily, in case of different seasonal needs for instance.

“The new roles that ports are asked to take up in terms of energy transition, energy security or military preparedness, require a lot of port space. Europe’s ports are in many cases adjacent or part of big city agglomerations who from their side need to expand and accommodate the needs of the citizens both in terms of housing but also in terms of space for leisure and culture. With this year’s award we want to give attention to those ports who successfully try to combine different functions in one infrastructure. This is not only optimising the use of the scarce space but is also allowing citizens who would otherwise not come to the port, to see, feel and understand the port”, says ESPO’s Secretary General Isabelle Ryckbost.

Project submissions must reach the ESPO Secretariat by Friday 3 July 2026 at the latest. The application form and the terms of reference are available on the ESPO Website.

The ESPO Award winning port is selected by an independent jury of international experts on the theme of the award, under the Chairmanship of Eamonn O’Reilly. The winner receives a painting out of the series “The Colours of ESPO” created exclusively for ESPO by Dutch port painter Sasja Hagens. The submitted projects are brought together into an illustrated ESPO Award booklet.

The award ceremony will take place during a dinner being held on 10 November 2026 in Brussels.

The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) and the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) today present a joint position paper outlining shared priorities to strengthen the connection between Europe’s railways and its ports and enhance the performance of hinterland logistics chains.

Europe’s ports and railways are central pillars of the European transport system. Together, they connect Europe to global markets, support industry and territorial cohesion, and contribute to the functioning of the internal market. In the current geopolitical, economic and climate context, efficient and well-coordinated port–rail connectivity is essential to reinforce competitiveness, resilience, military mobility and sustainability.

Building on their long-standing cross-modal cooperation, CER and ESPO identify key areas where coordinated action can unlock further efficiency and capacity gains.

CER and ESPO call for a simplified regulatory framework that better reflects the operational realities of port–rail areas. Simplifying existing rail rules applicable to port environments – without adding unnecessary administrative burdens and without compromising safety or interoperability – can significantly enhance efficiency and operational performance.

Closer cooperation between port authorities, infrastructure managers, rail freight undertakings and terminal operators is essential to address bottlenecks and operational challenges. Better coordinated planning, streamlined processes and enhanced digitalisation, including improved data sharing, are key to improving capacity, predictability and reliability.

A coherent European policy framework, supported by adequate funding, is equally necessary. EU instruments such as the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and Military Mobility funding play a crucial role in supporting projects with European added value. In the context of the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework, CER and ESPO underline the importance of a strong EU transport budget, including a reinforced CEF with a budget of at least €100 billion to address infrastructure gaps and enhance connectivity and resilience, duly recognising the importance of the rail-port interface.

In fact, a stronger port–rail interface is instrumental to achieving Europe’s broader strategic objectives. Ports and railways must function as a coordinated system to support efficient, sustainable and resilient supply chains.

CER and ESPO will continue to deepen their cooperation and stand ready to work constructively with EU institutions and stakeholders to advance a more coherent and effective approach to port–rail connectivity.

Alberto Mazzola, Executive Director of CER, said: “A strong and well-functioning port–rail interface is essential for Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and green transition. By simplifying operations and regulation, as well as investing and increasing capacity, we can unlock rail’s full potential in port hinterland transport, increase rail’s market share and enhance the performance of Europe’s logistics chains. CER is committed to building strong alliances beyond the rail freight sector and extending to military mobility, working closely with ports and other transport stakeholders to deliver a more integrated and resilient European transport system.”

Isabelle Ryckbost, Secretary General of ESPO, said: “At a time where Europe is focused on simplification and relieving the regulatory burden, we need a critical assessment of the legislative framework applicable to the port-rail network to examine where rules can be simplified. The operational reality and challenges within the port and on the port-rail network highly differ from those of the national rail network. ESPO and CER do this joint pledge at a moment where Europe needs strong and well-connected ports and port-rail links to strengthen Europe’s resilience and competitiveness, so any support in this direction and relief of the regulatory burden where possible can only be welcomed.”

Read here the full joint position paper: “Strengthening Europe’s Port–Rail Interface.”

About CER: The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) brings together around 70 railway undertakings, their national associations as well as infrastructure managers and vehicle leasing companies. The membership is made up of long-established bodies, new entrants and both private and public enterprises, representing 78% of the rail network length, 81% of the rail freight business and about 94% of rail passenger operations in EU, EFTA and EU accession countries. CER represents the interests of its members towards EU policymakers and transport stakeholders, advocating rail as the backbone of a competitive and sustainable transport system in Europe. For more information, visit www.cer.be or follow @CER_railways on X or LinkedIn.

About ESPO: The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) represents the port authorities, port associations and port administrations of the seaports of 22 Member States of the European Union including Norway at political level. ESPO has also observer members in Albania, Iceland, Israel, Montenegro, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. ESPO is the principal interface between the European seaport authorities and the European institutions. In addition to representing the interests of European ports, ESPO is a knowledge network which brings together professionals from the port sector and national port organisations. ESPO was created in 1993. For more information, visit www.espo.be or follow @ESPOSecretariat on X or Linkedin.

(PPA S.A.) was recognized at the “HRIMA 2025 Business Awards,” receiving the 2nd Prize for Best Public Utility Company, in an award of particular prestige and significance for the Greek business and investment community.

For the 23rd consecutive year, HRIMA magazine organized the awards in collaboration with ethosEVENTS and the financial portal banks.com.gr, highlighting companies that actively support the Greek economy and contribute to the development of the stock market. The awards are a well-established benchmark for the annual evaluation of listed companies, based on strict criteria of reliability and transparency.

This recognition confirms the consistent growth trajectory and strong financial performance of PPA S.A., as a result of a coherent transformation plan and a sustainable development strategy that has been consistently implemented in recent years.
The company’s recognition as the 2nd Best Public Utility Company is closely linked to PPA S.A.’s long-standing contribution to the national economy and local communities. The 3.5% concession fee allocated annually to the neighboring municipalities, combined with a comprehensive framework of social and educational initiatives, strengthens local development and social cohesion, positioning the Port of Piraeus as a driver of progress with tangible and measurable social impact.
