DESCRIPTION:Energy Security\, Energy Transition and the New Maritime Reality\nApril 29th\, 2026\nB & E Goulandris Foundation\, Eratosthenous 13\, 116 35 Athens \nAs maritime transportation challenges of vital energy commodities mount daily\, in view of the ongoing hostilities in the Persian Gulf area\, the Institute is convening a special colloquium in Athens in order to discuss and analyse the situation but also formulate appropriate policy recommendations. This is the fifth time that IENE is organising such an event as it seeks to broaden the debate in energy by focusing on areas of immediate concern to global economy and trade and of course to Greece. \nWith Greece commanding one of the largest fleets of commercial vessels worldwide with substantial volumes of oil\, gas and other energy products being transported daily\, there are pressing issues related to maritime security\, energy security\, safety of operations\, insurance\, verification and financing that need to be discussed. \nFor the shipping industry\, and particularly for operators of energy carriers\, three elements are indispensable: crew safety\, availability of insurance\, and clear operational decision-making frameworks. Seafarers must not be exposed to unacceptable risk\, while war-risk insurance\, often overlooked outside the sector\, is essential for enabling vessels to operate. Without it\, ships simply do not sail. At the same time\, shipowners require stable and predictable conditions to make strategic routing decisions\, especially in times of heightened geopolitical tension. \nThe implications extend far beyond the maritime sector. When uncertainty affects key shipping corridors\, the consequences are rapidly transmitted across the global economy\, influencing energy prices\, industrial output\, supply chains\, and financial markets. While global logistics systems have demonstrated resilience\, their flexibility is not unlimited. Beyond a certain threshold\, uncertainty leads to paralysis\, particularly when it occurs at critical nodes of the global trading system. \nA select group of speakers spanning the whole spectrum of energy and shipping have accepted the Institute’s invitation and will participate in this intensive one day seminar\, by contributing their valuable insights and knowledge of the shipping industry and its energy connection. \nThe event is being held under the auspices of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping \nProgramme:

Στόχος της είναι να διασφαλίζει ότι οι προτεραιότητες στην έρευνα\, ανάπτυξη και καινοτομία (RD&I)\, καθώς και η εφαρμογή των καινοτομιών\, ανταποκρίνονται τόσο στις ανάγκες της βιομηχανίας όσο και στους στόχους του ευρύτερου ευρωπαϊκού πολιτικού σχεδιασμού. Επιπλέον\, από το 2021\, η Waterborne TP συντονίζει την ιδιωτική πλευρά της Σύμπραξης για τη Ναυτιλία Μηδενικών Εκπομπών σε συνεργασία με την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή. Σήμερα η Waterborne TP αριθμεί 130 μέλη από 19 κράτη-μέλη της ΕΕ και 4 ευρωπαϊκές χώρες συνδεδεμένες με το πρόγραμμα Horizon Europe. \n70 Χρόνια Ίδρυμα Ευγενίδου \nΤο Ίδρυμα Ευγενίδου είναι μέλος της  Waterborne από το 2024\, και αποτελεί θεσμικό εταίρο του Υπουργείου Ναυτιλίας και Νησιωτικής Πολιτικής για την γαλάζια οικονομία\, με έμφαση στις δεξιότητες που απαιτούνται για τα επαγγέλματα που σχετίζονται με τη θάλασσα. \nΤο 2026 αποτελεί ορόσημο για το Ίδρυμα Ευγενίδου\, καθώς συμπληρώνει 70 χρόνια αδιάλειπτης και πολυδιάστατης προσφοράς στην εκπαίδευση\, τη γνώση και την καλλιέργεια δεξιοτήτων των νέων της χώρας μας. Το 3ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο και Φεστιβάλ για την Ελιά «Έλαιον Πάντων Βάλσαμον» συγκεντρώνει από 27 έως 30 Μαΐου 2026 κορυφαίους επιστήμονες\, παραγωγούς\, επιχειρηματίες και δημιουργούς από όλο τον κόσμο στη Λέσβο\, εξελίσσοντας τη συζήτηση γύρω από το ελαιόλαδο\, την αειφορία\, την υγεία\, τη γαστρονομία\, τον ελαιοτουρισμό και την καινοτομία. DESCRIPTION:This year’s ship.energy summit is coming to Athens where it will take a reality check on the decarbonisation of shipping and ports. \nWhile the events at the MEPC Extraordinary Session in October 2025 pressed the pause button on the IMO’s Net Zero Framework\, the UN agency’s timeline for shipping’s GHG reductions is still in place. \nAs such\, this year’s ship energy summit will ask maritime stakeholders how – or if – momentum on the sector’s energy transition can be maintained. Do national and regional policymakers\, technology innovators\, shipping companies\, ports and new energy providers still have the ambition and drive to meet IMO GHG emissions timelines – or do expectations need to be managed. \nFor an industry known for its resilience\, adaptability and problem-solving\, is decarbonisation still an opportunity and priority\, and is the much-vaunted collaborative approach to meeting this challenge still holding true. \nThe discussions at this year’s event will very much focus on what is achievable – both in terms of newbuilds\, but perhaps more importantly\, in relation to conventionally-fuelled vessels already on the water. It will evaluate the impact of ratcheting European regulations on shipping’s emissions and consider the effectiveness of penalty/incentive approaches to the industry’s transition to new energy sources. \nThe summit will also examine the potential impact of the European Commission’s recently published Industrial Maritime Strategy. Has the Strategy provided the necessary signals and confidence for maritime industries to keep up the pressure for decarbonisation. \nThe conference will also consider if the ambition of start-up companies has been compromised by the IMO’s ‘no deal at present’ decision\, and if finance providers are still willing to support those companies\, across all maritime sectors\, who are prepared to take a risk in developing the new energy sources and technologies for shipping and ports. \nAs always\, the ship.energy summit will look at the industry’s progress on decarbonisation with reference to case studies and real projects\, and with a strong focus on initiatives in Southern Europe. \nMore:
