Angelicoussi, Wiernicki, Paliou, Comninos and Procopiou among the personalities recognised at 22nd Lloyd\u2019s List Greek Shipping Awards<\/p>\n

Shipowners Neptune Lines, Seaven Tanker Management, Atlantic Bulk Carriers and Tsakos won major awards in a ceremony that entertained but also engaged with important issues.<\/p>\n

SOME of the most prestigious and successful individuals and companies in Greek shipping, as well as a number of exciting newcomers, were recognised as the 2025 Lloyd\u2019s List Greek Shipping Awards highlighted the know-how and dedication of the industry as it navigates turbulent times for global trade.<\/p>\n

An industry gathering of more than 1,000 guests on Friday, December 5 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0enjoyed Greek shipping\u2019s \u2018Dinner of the Year\u2019, in an evening dedicated to Greece and its leadership in international shipping.<\/p>\n

Neptune Lines<\/strong>, the country\u2019s major liner operator, was named \u2018Dry Cargo Company of the Year\u2019 after an exceptional 2025 that has seen the company advance and expand with a number of important initiatives.\u00a0Seaven Tanker Management\u00a0became the first short-sea shipping company to scoop one of the major awards as it won the \u2018Tanker Company of the Year\u2019 category. The Passenger Line of the Year Award was won by\u00a0Minoan Lines,<\/p>\n

Tsakos Energy Navigation<\/strong>\u00a0won the \u2018Deal of the Year\u2019 Award for a mammoth deal for nine shuttle tankers that it will construct for long-term charter to Transpetro, a subsidiary of Brazil\u2019s Petrobras, that will generate an estimated $2bn in revenues.<\/p>\n

Other shipping companies to win important awards included\u00a0Atlantic Bulk Carriers<\/strong>, that won \u2018The Sustainability Award\u2019, and\u00a0Ariston Navigation<\/strong>, that was presented with the \u2018Technical Achievement Award\u2019 for its retrofitting and testing of the Petroduct, a new energy-saving device invented by Emmanouil Petromanolakis.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Safety Award\u2019 was won by\u00a0Megatugs Salvage & Towage<\/strong>\u00a0for its epic salvage of the Greek-flagged tanker Sounion, left burning in the Red Sea after being attacked by the Houthis. The operation averted an environmental catastrophe and made international headlines for its daring and professionalism.<\/p>\n

Personalities winning individual awards were led by shipowner\u00a0Maria Angelicoussis<\/strong>\u00a0who was unveiled as \u2018Greek Shipping Personality of the Year\u2019 for 2025, reflecting her group\u2019s ongoing support for the Greek flag and cadet training, but in particular the largest-ever transaction in the history of the \u00a0Angelicoussis Group \u2013 its $2bn takeover of Altera Shuttle Tankers, now renamed Maran Shuttle Tankers.<\/p>\n

Anthony E. Comninos<\/strong> was recognised for a remarkable career with the \u2018Lloyd\u2019s List \/ Propeller Club Lifetime Achievement Award.\u00a0Marielena Procopiou<\/strong>, founder and chief executive of Delos Navigation and Akrotiri Tankers, won the \u2018Next Generation Shipping Award\u2019 for outstanding personalities under 40.<\/p>\n

Semiramis Paliou<\/strong>, chief executive of New York-listed Diana Shipping and chairperson of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (Helmepa), was unveiled as \u2018Newsmaker of the Year\u2019.<\/p>\n

Christopher J. Wiernicki<\/strong>, retiring after 15 years as president and chief executive of classification society ABS was hailed as International Personality of the Year.<\/p>\n

Traditionally one of the highlights of the annual awards ceremony, the \u2018Seafarer of the Year Award\u2019 was presented to Costamare containership master\u00a0Captain Dionysios Arkalis<\/strong>, whose vessel rescued the seven-man crew of a small vessel that had been left drifting in the middle of the South Atlantic for two weeks in a classic case of prioritising the preservation of lives at sea.<\/p>\n

As winner of the \u2018Award for Achievement in Education or Training\u2019, the judging panel chose the\u00a0Aspropyrgos Merchant Marine Academy<\/strong>, a pillar of the national seafarers\u2019 training system for nearly 70 years.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s \u2018Ship of the Year\u2019 was named as the\u00a0\u2018Active\u2019\u00a0a world-first liquefied CO2 carrier of 22,000 cu m capacity built by HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Korea for Capital Clean Energy Carriers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Several other important awards recognised excellence and value in Greece\u2019s maritime cluster.\u00a0CrediaBank\u00a0was voted \u2018Shipping Financier of the Year\u2019, while\u00a0Intermodal<\/strong>\u00a0was named \u2018Shipbroker of the Year\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association<\/strong>\u00a0won the prestigious \u2018Piraeus International Centre Award\u2019. \u2018The Lloyd\u2019s List Intelligence Big Data Award\u2019 was won by\u00a0Nereus Digital Bunkering\u00a0for its innovative bunkering management platform.<\/p>\n

Brilliant singer\u00a0Nafsica\u00a0made a special guest appearance on stage, thrilling the audience with surprise performances of one of the most popular songs from Grease as well as a rendering of Thalassografia in tribute to Dionysis Savvopoulos.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by Minister of Shipping & Island Policy\u00a0Vasilis Kikilias\u00a0who delivered a welcome address.<\/p>\n

Neptune Maritime Leasing\u00a0was the overall lead sponsor of the Greek Shipping Awards for a third consecutive year.<\/p>\n

Guests enjoyed a pre-dinner drinks reception hosted by prominent shipbroking firm\u00a0Allegiant (Shipping)\u00a0while Dimitris Vranopoulos of sponsor\u00a0Marine Plus\u00a0offered the traditional champagne toast to the health of Greek shipping.<\/p>\n

A donation from proceeds of the event went to\u00a0\u2018Argo\u2019, the charity supporting children with disabilities in the families of Greek seafarers. The donation was kindly presented to Argo by Gianluca Tucci, director general of the\u00a0San Marino Ship Register, which also sponsored the event\u2019s Gallery of Winners, an entrance chamber chronicling past honorees of the event launched in 2004.<\/p>\n

The annual awards recognise achievement and meritorious activity in the Greek shipping industry and promote Greece as a maritime centre. Winners are chosen by an independent panel of judges representing a broad cross-section of the Greek shipping industry.<\/p>\n

The Greek Shipping Awards thanked all the Greek and international sponsors of the prestigious event, many of which have loyally supported the Awards for many years. This year saw Eurobank complete 10 years of support for the event, a milestone recognised in the form of an honorary statuette presented to the sponsor.<\/p>\n
