{"id":262408,"date":"2025-08-05T10:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T07:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimes.gr\/?p=262408"},"modified":"2025-08-05T10:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T07:51:09","slug":"dnv-and-acciona-energia-collaborate-on-sustainable-battery-storage-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimes.gr\/en\/dnv-and-acciona-energia-collaborate-on-sustainable-battery-storage-solutions\/","title":{"rendered":"DNV and ACCIONA Energ\u00eda collaborate on sustainable battery storage solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DNV is collaborating with ACCIONA Energ\u00eda, a leading renewable energy company based in Madrid, to assess second-life battery energy storage systems (BESS) against European standards and industry best practices.<\/p>\n<p>ACCIONA Energ\u00eda, the world\u2019s largest 100% renewable energy company with no fossil fuel legacy, is exploring the reuse of batteries from its fleet of Silence electric scooters in line with the EU Batteries Regulation (EU 2023\/1542), which promotes circular economy principles in electronic equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The project evaluates the feasibility of repurposing e-scooter batteries for stationary, less power-intensive applications\u2014extending battery lifespans, reducing waste, and lowering the carbon footprint of ACCIONA Energ\u00eda\u2019s asset portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with second-life BESS integrator Beeplanet, ACCIONA Energ\u00eda has developed a 1 MW prototype stationary storage unit using repurposed batteries. DNV is conducting a comprehensive review of the prototype\u2019s design and overall second-life BESS strategy.<\/p>\n<p>DNV\u2019s role includes assessing the first-life application, repurposing process, and testing methodology, as well as evaluating the system\u2019s electrical design, thermal management, and safety concept against relevant EU benchmarks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Santiago Blanco<\/strong>, Executive Vice President &amp; Regional Director for Southern Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, Energy Systems at DNV, said: \u201c<em>DNV\u2019s advisory role helps organizations navigate the energy transition while aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and EU circularity policies\u2014safeguarding life, property, and the environment.
