{"id":256799,"date":"2025-04-11T18:52:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T15:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimes.gr\/?p=256799"},"modified":"2025-04-11T18:52:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T15:52:10","slug":"european-shipowners-welcome-important-global-agreement-on-shipping-decarbonisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimes.gr\/en\/european-shipowners-welcome-important-global-agreement-on-shipping-decarbonisation\/","title":{"rendered":"European Shipowners welcome important global agreement on shipping decarbonisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>European Shipowners | ECSA welcome the global climate agreement reached today at the United Nations\u2019 International Maritime Organization (IMO).<\/p>\n<p>The critically important package of new greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction regulations \u2013 the \u201cIMO net-zero framework\u201d \u2013 will help ensure international shipping\u2019s transition to net zero.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Shipping will be the first sector to have a globally agreed carbon price. It is key that multilateral cooperation at UN level delivers concrete action in times of increasing uncertainty, to achieve the 2050 net zero emissions target. \u00a0Even though the agreement is not perfect, it is a good starting point for further work. It is a framework which we can build upon to ensure the necessary investment in the production of clean fuels<\/em>\u201d said<strong> Sotiris Raptis, Secretary General of European Shipowners | ECSA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Shipping is an international industry which requires meaningful global regulations to decarbonise.
