We have decided to use new oils in 2020, we seek a greater role in decision-making: George- Paul Perantzakis, Naftomar DIPL Civil Engineer
The latest developments in engine construction in the current phase of transition to new fuels from January 1st 2020 were presented at the “Dual Fuel Engines” seminar held on Wednesday (23/10) at the Benaki Museum.
“It is very important today to be aware of the latest developments in machine manufacturing. The presentation was very important and interesting for new oils from 2020 and the options for alternative fuels, ”Mr. George-Paul Perantzakis, Naftomar DIPL Civil Engineer, told maritimes.gr.
“We have decided to use the new oils. We have worked very closely with the manufacturers to get the right technical solutions that will help us manage our ships properly, “he said.
There is a long range of factors that need to be checked, from oil quality to oil compatibility, he explained.
Asked if the cost would ultimately pass on to the consumer, Mr Perantzakis said he did not see it happening immediately.
“Any change triggers a series of changes, costs or technology. This particular change is one-way, since it is a regulation. In the future the cost may be passed on to the consumer, although we have seen in recent years that most changes are absorbed by companies,” he noted.
Regarding the decision-making process by regulators, he stressed that it might be more appropriate that the views of managers and ship owners are taken more into account.
