TideWise’s 24-metre uncrewed surface vessel receives LR AiP

Autonomous USV will undertake offshore subsea inspection operations.

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Brazilian company TideWise for its 24-metre uncrewed surface vessel (USV), designed for offshore subsea inspection operations at depths of up to 2,500 metres.

The AiP confirms the vessel’s structural integrity, stability, and compliance with control system standards. The multipurpose USV is built to withstand harsh maritime conditions and incorporates innovative advancements in autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and collision avoidance.

With an endurance of 35 days and dynamic positioning 2 (DP2) capability, the vessel can deploy a work-class electric remotely operated vehicle (ROV) at depths of up to 2,500 metres. Its ability to perform multiple tasks offers the potential to streamline workflows, minimise operational downtime, reduce costs, and enhance the overall efficiency of offshore projects.

Powered by a hybrid diesel-electric system with the potential for future migration to hydrogen, the USV significantly reduces carbon emissions, and meets the demand for sustainable solutions in offshore operations.

Rafael Coelho, TideWise CEO, said: “This approval in principle from LR marks an important milestone for TideWise. Our innovative USV eliminates factors such as human error, which will help to ensure more reliable and secure operations, making it an essential solution for challenging environments in the maritime and offshore sectors.

Hugo Canella, Account Manager, Brazil, LR said: “LR is delighted to award approval in principle to TideWise’s USV , confirming it meets the applicable rules and standards. We are proud to play an important role in the assurance of autonomous technologies in the maritime industry.
