The new generation of Cypriot shipowners at the helm of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber.

Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, CEO and owner of Interorient Navigation, was elected as the new President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC). This comes following the elections of the new Board of Directors of the Chamber during the Annual General Meeting of the CSC, when Mr. Papadopoulos was unanimously elected by the CSC Board for a two-year term commencing in April 2015.

The new Chamber President is familiar with all the Chamber’s affairs as he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006. Mr. Papadopoulos succeeds the outgoing President, Capt. Eugen Adami, who in his capacity as President since 2009, has helped the CSC successfully execute its mission. The CSC is Cyprus’ main resident shipping association incorporating more than 170 member companies.


First statements


In his first statement as Chamber President, Mr. Papadopoulos stated “I am honoured that the Chamber’s Board, has elected me at this particular time to lead the Chamber”. He also emphasised the necessity to maintain a strong Cyprus shipping industry, as the ever-growing global shipping market demands high quality operations and services. He pointed out that his main aim for the Chamber is to work very closely with the Cyprus Government, the House of Representatives and all the Chamber associates, in order to ensure that Cyprus maintains and increases its attractiveness both in terms of a high quality and safety conscious Registry, as well as a competitive and business-friendly base of operation for shipping and shipping related companies. To achieve this important aim, Themis Papadopoulos looks forward to working very closely with all his colleagues on the Chamber Board, and in particular with the Vice Presidents who will be allocated specific areas of involvement, as a well coordinated team. He also wishes to enhance even more, the harmonious relations between the Chamber Member-companies by bringing them closer to the work, events and activities of the Chamber.


About Themis Papadopoulos


Born in 1974, Themis Papadopoulos graduated from the University of Warwick before joining Interorient Navigation Co Ltd in 1997. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2004, a position which he holds within the Group today. He is a director of numerous companies including Tufton Oceanic Finance Group and CDB Bank. He is also a Vice Chairman of the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association.
