Teekay takes up to five
Teekay LNG Partners’ latest newbuilding contract with DSME is larger than previously thought.
The MLP was reported in these pages last week to be behind one firm ship at the South Korean shipbuilder, with options for three more.
Teekay LNG confirmed the firm $220m newbuilding in its fourth quarter report today, alongside four options.
It says a charter for the 173,400-cbm vessel will be found prior to its fourth quarter 2018 delivery.
Teekay is a regular customer of DSME, with its expanded orderbook at the yard also including six vessels to serve the Yamal Project.
Peter Evensen, chief executive of the MLP, said: “The partnership also continues to successfully pursue on-the-water growth opportunities that will allow us to provide additional near-term accretion ahead of the scheduled deliveries of our MEGI LNG newbuilding fleet.”
