PPA S.A.: Successful completion of the European project CIPORT in Brussels
The concluding event for the European project “CIPORT-Cold Ironing in the Port of Piraeus – Taking the final step” took place at the Berlaymont, the headquarters of the European Commission, following its completion in late February 2024. This significant European project was implemented by PPA S.A. with co-financing from the European Union.
Among the attendees was Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas, who emphasized the importance of Transportation for Europe, a high priority for the European Commission. Mr. Schinas referred to the CIPORT project as significant and of national importance since Piraeus, apart from being one of the largest ports in Europe, is also a major hub for cruising and a ferry transportation for the Greek islands.
The event was introduced by Ms. Giouli Kommata, Manager of the Marketing and Quality Control Department of PPA S.A., who briefly referred to the CIPORT project, while Ms. Chrysanthi Kontogiorgi, Deputy Manager of the Property and Environment Department of PPA S.A., focused on the company’s initiatives regarding environmental upgrades both in the port and its surrounding areas, as well as the crucial issue of environmental permits for ship electrification projects under the EU Projects CIPORT & EALING. Additionally, Mr. Dimitrios Spyrou, Advisor and Head of European Projects at PPA S.A., highlighted the importance of the investment for the port of Piraeus and the wider region.
Following this, interesting interventions were made by the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the United Nations, Ambassador Ioannis Vrailas, the Director-General of DG TAXUD, Mr. Gerasimos Thomas, representatives from the European Commission, the European Sea-Port Organization (ESPO), as well as representatives from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), which oversees the good execution of the project.
