Polemis buys VLCC

10.02.2015

Adam Polemis is tipped to have added a second-hand VLCC to the fleet of his New Shipping.

He is reported to have taken the 298,600-dwt GC Haikjou (built 2000) from GC Tankers for $31m.

Clarksons says the deal indicates a climb in the price of VLCCs over the past six months.

It notes Smart Tankers paid $30m for the 299,500-dwt BW Nysa (built 2000) in September last year.

Polemis has taken New Shipping’s VLCC count to six with the purchase. All of the tankers were built in 1999 or 2000.

He will have 14 tankers in an overall fleet of 27 vessels once GC Haikjou is delivered, data from VesselsValue.com says.

Clarksons said in its weekly report: “Tanker sale and purchase activity remains firm in the crude segment with evidence of on-going negotiations and a strong level of enquiry.”

Polemis is one of the largest VLCC owners in Greece, with only John Angelicoussis, Dynacom, Navios, Olympic andEmbiricos ahead of New Shipping in the standings, Clarksons’ data shows.
