Making climate-neutral fisheries and aquaculture a true European success story: SEA Europe joins the EU Energy Transition Partnership for fisheries and aquaculture
SEA Europe is pleased to announce that Vincent Guerre, its Director for Trade and Competitiveness, has been selected by the European Commission as the Coordinator for the shipbuilding industry within the EU Energy Transition Partnership for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
This Partnership brings together stakeholders to drive the decarbonization and energy transition of European fisheries and aquaculture, fostering resilience and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
10 coordinators representing key sectors – fisheries, aquaculture, fish processing, shipbuilding, ports, research organizations, and NGOs – will lead efforts to foster the collection of inputs, recommendations and best practices.
Vincent Guerre stated: “In my role as Coordinator for the shipbuilding industry, I will work with vessel designers, technology developers, shipyards, and equipment manufacturers to deliver actionable recommendations and assist the European Commission in shaping a comprehensive roadmap to make climate-neutral fisheries and aquaculture a true European success story.”
Christophe Tytgat, Secretary-General of SEA Europe, added: “With over 69,000 fishing vessels in the EU fleet and rising demand for aquaculture vessels, new technologies can make these fleets more sustainable, efficient, and safe. European shipyards and maritime equipment manufacturers, represented by SEA Europe, are eager to contribute alongside the fishing and aquaculture sectors, the civil society, ports, and the research community.”
SEA Europe represents close to 100% of the European shipbuilding industry in 16 nations, encompassing the production, maintenance, repair, and conversion of all types of ships and floating structures, commercial as well as naval, including the full supply chain with the various producers of maritime systems, equipment material, and services. As an NGO observer at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), CESA represents the shipbuilding industry and its supply chain from EU Member States, Norway, and Turkey.
