In the insurance market, it is important for the insurer to be financially sound and provide high quality services with no delays and the American P&I Club does so, said George Gourdomichalis, President & CEO of Phoenix Shipping & Trading S.A., speaking at maritimes.gr during the inauguration of the club’s new offices in Piraeus last week.

Although the American P&I Club has been celebrating 14 years in Greece, Mr. Gourdomichalis has been a member of the club for 19 years and a member of the Board of Directors for several years.

“We may be the smallest club in terms of numbers from the remaining 12 members of the International American P&I Club, but we are at the top in terms of human resources and insight and connecting with our clients – members of the club,” he said.

In the difficult times shipping and the insurance market are going through next February, the clubs will have to make difficult decisions about their future, he noted.

He warmly welcomed the fact that over the last 2-3 years the club members’ claims have decreased, which means high quality members, management and ships, but also human resources, as he stressed.

As for Phoenix Shipping & Trading S.A., he said that as the market moves to bigger shapes, “we are trying to do the same and to some extent we have succeeded.”

“As a company based in the US, we have a very strict set of capitalization regulations to follow and we have a very good financial background,” explained Mr. Gourdomichalis.
