Impressions from HELMEPA-LRF Campaign’s 11th stop, Aigio – Greece
During the past 5 years, more than 24,000 primary and high-school students and 1,750 teachers in 23 towns and islands of Greece have participated in the activities of the Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences, which is carried out by HELMEPA with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF). Besides raising awareness among schoolchildren and teachers of the Greek periphery on the themes of the Campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children to learn more about science, engineering and new technologies in the service of the environment and humanity.
At the recent stop of the Campaign, the town of Aigio in Peloponessus, we had the opportunity to record on video short interviews in English of two high school students and a teacher, who spoke about their impressions following their guided tour of the mobile exhibition. Also, comments are made by a representative of a local environmental NGO, who has participated in the Campaign’s activities. These can serve as a mere indication of the widespread impact of the Campaign on local communities throughout Greece.
