HEMEXPO welcomes the European Industrial Maritime Strategy

04.03.2026

The Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters (HEMEXPO) welcomes the adoption of the European Industrial Maritime Strategy by the European Commission. This initiative constitutes a clear and long-awaited political commitment to actively support European shipyards and manufacturers of marine equipment – sectors that are indispensable to Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy.

European maritime manufacturing is a strategic industrial asset. Strong European shipyards and a competitive marine equipment industry are essential not only for economic growth and technological leadership, but also for defence, sustainability and for the green and digital transition of shipping. The Strategy sends a strong signal that Europe recognises this reality.

Mrs. Eleni Polychronopoulou, President of HEMEXPO stated: “This is only the beginning. A strategy must now be translated into concrete actions, measurable objectives, and a clear implementation timetable. Rapid and coordinated execution will be critical to ensure that Europe’s maritime industrial base can compete globally on equal terms.

HEMEXPO calls upon all stakeholders at European level and at national level in Greece – including the Government and its relevant public bodies, shipowners and manufacturers – to work together in close cooperation in order to deliver tangible results.

Mr. Vassilios Demetriades, Principal Advisor – EU Regulatory Policy & Government Affairs of HEMEXPO, added: “Shipping is considered a strategic asset for Europe’s autonomy – as well as for Greece, given the scale and global leadership of its shipping sector – To support this position we need a strong, innovative and competitive maritime cluster.

HEMEXPO – Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters, brings together Greek companies that manufacture and export a comprehensive range of world class marine equipment and technical services used in the construction, conversion, maintenance and upgrading of ships and other marine structures. Established as one of the leading European maritime manufacturer associations, it offers a unified platform to support the global ambitions of its members and a collaborative link between these specialised companies and owners, class societies and shipyards worldwide.
