The Greek shipowner said it had sold the 48,170-dwt Golden Trader (built 1994) to UK-based OPES Shipping for $4m in cash.

The John Dragnis-led company said the delivery of the vessel to the new owners took place on 9 April 2015.

Goldenport said it has taken a non-cash impairment charge of $5.5m against the book value of the vessel in its end of year statement.

It added that it expects to realize a book loss of about $200,000 on the sale after accounting for brokerage commission and the ship’s residual book value.

“The sale of our oldest bulk carrier is in line with its strategy to phase out older vessels over time, thereby further reducing the average age of its fleet and enhancing operating and cash flow generating efficiency,” Goldenport said.

It added that the net sale proceeds will be applied towards the repayment of debt secured against the vessel and increasing the level of corporate liquidity.

Separately, the bulker and containership owner also disclosed that it expects to report its full year results on 30 April 2015.
