BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump had a private meeting on Friday in the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in central Beijing.

The meeting came before Trump concluded his state visit to China and a day after the two leaders held formal talks.

Upon Trump’s arrival at Zhongnanhai, Xi warmly welcomed him. The two heads of state walked and talked, occasionally stopping to admire the trees and flowers in the garden.

Noting that Trump’s visit was a historic and landmark one, Xi said the two sides had set the new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.

“We had reached important common understandings on maintaining stable economic and trade ties, expanding practical cooperation in various fields, and properly addressing each other’s concerns,” Xi said.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues, according to Xi.

The visit is conducive to enhancing mutual understanding, deepening mutual trust and improving the well-being of the two peoples, Xi said.

This once again demonstrates that it is a shared aspiration of both peoples and the expectation of people across the world for China and the United States to find a right path to get along with each other and to achieve peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, Xi added.

“While President Trump hopes to make America great again, I am dedicated to leading the Chinese people toward national rejuvenation,” Xi said, stressing that the two countries can advance their respective development and revitalization by strengthening cooperation.

China and the United States should implement the important common understandings that have been reached, cherish the hard-won positive momentum, keep to the right direction, steer clear of disruptions, and promote the steady development of bilateral relations, Xi said.

Trump said that he is very grateful to Xi for inviting him to visit Zhongnanhai, adding that his China visit was very successful, captured the world’s attention and was unforgettable.

Trump said that the two sides had reached a series of important common understandings, signed a number of agreements, and resolved many problems, which were very beneficial to both countries and the world.

Noting that Xi is his old friend, Trump said that he has great respect for Xi and that they have established a good relationship. The U.S.-China relationship is very important and will definitely get better, he said.

Trump said that he is willing to continue to maintain sincere and in-depth communication with Xi, and warmly looks forward to hosting Xi in Washington, D.C.

The two sides also exchanged views on some regional hotspot issues.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the event. ■

BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed on Thursday to build a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, steering the giant ship of China-U.S. relations in the right direction, and injecting greater stability and certainty into a world marked by turbulence and transformation.

At a time of mounting global uncertainty and accelerating changes unseen in a century, the consensus sends an important message: China and the United States should choose dialogue over confrontation, cooperation over conflict, and stability over turbulence.

The agreement represents an important attempt to answer the defining questions of the 21st century: Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides Trap and create a new paradigm of major-country relations? Can the two countries meet global challenges together and provide greater stability for the world? Can they build a bright future together for the bilateral relations in the interest of the well-being of the two peoples and the future of humanity?

As Xi explained, the “constructive strategic stability” should be a positive stability with cooperation as the mainstay, a sound stability with moderate competition, a constant stability with manageable differences, and an enduring stability with promises of peace.

The new positioning of China-U.S. relations reflects a profound understanding of the experience and lessons drawn from bilateral ties. It embodies the consistent principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, and is of far-reaching significance to promoting the stable, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability is not a slogan. It means actions in the same direction. Indeed, positive signals have already emerged. The latest round of China-U.S. economic and trade talks produced generally balanced and positive outcomes.

The common interests shared by China and the United States far outweigh their differences. The success of each country is an opportunity for the other, and a stable China-U.S. relationship is a boon to the world. History has repeatedly proven that China-U.S. economic and trade relations are mutually beneficial and win-win in nature.

Faced with differences and frictions, consultation on the basis of equality is the only correct choice. The two sides should be partners rather than rivals, enabling each other’s success and achieving shared prosperity.

In the future, the two sides should implement the important consensus reached by the two presidents, make better use of communication channels in the political and diplomatic, as well as military-to-military fields, and expand cooperation in fields including economy and trade, health, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people ties and law enforcement.

It also means handling sensitive issues prudently. The Taiwan question remains the most important issue in China-U.S. relations. Properly handling it is essential to maintaining the overall stability of bilateral ties. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy.

“Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. Safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the biggest common denominator between China and the United States. The U.S. side must exercise extra caution in handling the Taiwan question.

How China and the United States, the world’s two major countries, get along bears on the overall direction of the international landscape and the future of humanity. As the world once again stands at a new crossroads, China and the United States have the responsibility to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, jointly address global challenges, and promote world peace and development.

The future of China-U.S. relations is promising. Standing at a new historical starting point, the two sides should stay committed to building a constructive relationship of strategic stability, strengthen dialogue, properly manage differences and expand practical cooperation.

By addressing issues one by one and steadily building mutual trust, the two sides can surely find the right way to get along with each other, make 2026 a historic and landmark year for China-U.S. relations that builds on the past and opens up the future, and jointly create a better tomorrow. ■

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday met here with representatives of the U.S. business community accompanying President Donald Trump on his visit to China.

The talks between President Xi Jinping and President Trump this morning have set a strategic direction for China-U.S. relations, Li noted.

Amid rising global instability and uncertainty, he said, maintaining candid and open communication as well as a stable and sound China-U.S. relationship is not only significant for both countries but also essential for global peace and development.

China stands ready to work with the United States to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and strive for more tangible results to benefit both peoples and the world, the premier said.

“A steadily growing Chinese economy will provide more opportunities for companies from all countries, including U.S. enterprises,” he told the representatives.

Noting that China is implementing its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), Li said that the scale, growth potential, and stability of the Chinese market remain evident, with new demand being unleashed at a faster pace, new drivers of growth constantly strengthening, and the economy continuing to improve steadily.

He pledged that China will stay committed to expanding high-standard opening up, provide quality services to foreign-funded enterprises, improve policies and efficiency, listen to their concerns, help solve their difficulties, and enable them to plan and grow with confidence.

“A stable and open policy environment is the long-standing and unwavering commitment of the Chinese government,” said Li, who expressed hope that more U.S. companies will continue to deepen their engagement in the Chinese market and facilitate communication between the two nations.

Representatives of the U.S. business community said that the successful meeting between the two heads of state has injected new impetus into bilateral economic and trade cooperation and provided certainty for the world economy.

Speaking highly of China’s efforts to advance high-standard opening up and build a world-class business environment, they said the U.S. business community is optimistic about China’s development prospects and willing to expand cooperation with China. ■

The exhibition presents 44 replicas and reproductions of artifacts unearthed across Xinjiang, together with digital displays, to show the region’s pivotal role in connecting China with the wider world throughout history.

Tang expressed the hope that the exhibit would serve as an opportunity to carry forward the deep friendship and emotional resonance between the two ancient civilizations.

Georgios Tsaprounis, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Byzantine and Christian Museum, said the exhibition transcends the boundaries of time and space and showcases the profound historical ties among different cultures.

ATHENS, May 8 (Xinhua) — A forum on intercultural dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations was held on Thursday to mark the 20th anniversary of the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership.

Participants said China and Greece, both ancient civilizations, have gained fresh impetus from exchanges that enhance mutual understanding, deepen practical cooperation and promote people-to-people connectivity.

The forum, themed “The Beauty of Harmony: Coexistence through Integration,” was jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Embassy in Greece and the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia. About 150 representatives from the governments, media outlets, cultural institutions, research organizations and enterprises attended the forum.

Guests exchanged views on the historical legacy and contemporary practice of exchanges between Chinese and Greek civilizations, as well as on strengthening the cultural and people-to-people foundations to improve global governance through dialogue among civilizations. They also visited a photo exhibition commemorating the anniversary.

At the exhibition, former Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos paused frequently to view the displays, which traced the 20-year journey of the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership and highlighted the two ancient civilizations’ practice of expanding cooperation for mutual benefit.

Pavlopoulos called the exhibition “the best proof” that Greece-China cooperation is pragmatic and effective, and serves as a model of great significance to humanity and the world.

Former Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos said Greece and China share something rare and precious as heirs to great ancient civilizations and have jointly shaped the intellectual and spiritual heritage of humanity.

He cited the Port of Piraeus as a concrete example demonstrating the effectiveness of the Belt and Road Initiative in delivering tangible development. As the two countries mark the 20th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, he urged both sides to continue to deepen cooperation, uphold the rule of international law, promote a more equitable international order, and work together to advance civilizational exchanges to build a shared future.

Stelios Virvidakis, secretary-general of the Center of Greek and Chinese Ancient Civilizations, said in a world still marked by turbulence, conflicts and unrest, the ideas of harmony, cultivation of virtue and rational understanding embodied in Greek and Chinese civilizations are more valuable. He expressed hope that the two sides will continue to deepen academic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

George Georgoudis, Greek director of the Confucius Institute at the University of West Attica, said relations between Greece and China have strengthened over the past 20 years, with people-to-people exchanges becoming the most dynamic and sustainable direction of cooperation.

Roula Tsokalidou, Greek director of the Confucius Institute at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, said that since the Confucius Institute at Aristotle University officially began teaching in 2020, many Greek students have fallen in love with the Chinese language and culture. She added that the institute will continue contributing to bilateral friendship and relations.

Christos Kadas, a student from the Technical University of Crete who attended a summer camp in China, said that although Greece and China are geographically distant, they are close to each other. “We are both ancient civilizations with rich histories and strong cultural identities.”

Kadas emphasized that today the countries’ connections are stronger than ever, extending beyond politics and economy to culture, education, and human bonds.

Looking ahead, participants urged enhanced understanding through civilizational dialogue, people-to-people exchanges to strengthen affinity, and practical cooperation to achieve win-win results, injecting fresh impetus to China-Greece relations. ■

ATHENS, May 7 (Xinhua) — A forum on intercultural dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations to mark the 20th anniversary of the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership was held here on Thursday.

The forum, themed “The Beauty of Harmony: Coexistence through Integration,” was jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Embassy in Greece and the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lyu Yansong, editor-in-chief of Xinhua News Agency, said that the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership has continued to deepen under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state. As China’s national news agency, Xinhua has always been committed to telling stories of practical and friendly cooperation as well as intercultural dialogue and mutual learning between the two civilizations.

At a critical crossroads concerning the future of humanity, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for building a world where “the light of civilization illuminates the right path for human progress,” Lyu said.

Lyu said that as an important bridge for people-to-people communication and a vital force in promoting dialogue among civilizations, the media shoulders unique social responsibilities. Looking ahead, Xinhua is ready to work with Chinese and Greek partners to jointly uphold the vision of civilization based on equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness, actively carry forward the common values of humanity, promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, and contribute to mutual learning among civilizations.

He noted that the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with Xinhua News Agency, on Thursday released a report titled “The Theory of Cultural Empowerment: China’s Cultural Consciousness in Marching Toward High-Quality Development.”

The report is not only a practical reflection on China’s continuous promotion of cultural empowerment for high-quality development, but also provides intellectual support for countries around the world to achieve sustainable economic and social development and promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, Lyu said.

Former Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said the anniversary marked an important milestone in Greece-China cooperation. The two sides have achieved fruitful results in trade, economic and investment cooperation, while further deepening a multidimensional partnership centered on civilizational exchange and dialogue, he said, adding that cooperation between the two sides has broad prospects.

Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu said that looking ahead, China and Greece will strengthen strategic alignment, advance cooperation in such areas as digital infrastructure, green transition and smart manufacturing, continuously deepen mutual learning among civilizations and practical cooperation, and promote mutual empowerment in culture, trade and economy.

About 150 representatives from the two countries’ governments, media outlets, cultural institutions, research organizations and enterprises attended the forum.

Participants exchanged views on the historical legacy and contemporary practice of exchanges between Chinese and Greek civilizations, as well as on strengthening the cultural and people-to-people foundations for improving global governance through dialogue among civilizations. They also visited a photo exhibition dedicated to the anniversary.

Former Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos said the significance of the Greece-China comprehensive strategic partnership has become increasingly evident as the international order undergoes profound changes. The friendship between Greece and China has endured and grown stronger, while the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative has brought tangible development benefits to Greece, he added.

Tang Wei, deputy head of China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration, said cultural heritage cooperation has become a distinctive feature of the China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership. He added that fruitful cooperation in the field has played an important role in promoting people-to-people exchanges and carrying forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Before the forum opened, Xinhua Publishing House, the publishing arm of Xinhua News Agency, and Greece’s Papazisis Publishers signed a copyright licensing agreement for the Greek-language edition of the first volume of “China’s Governance Under Xi Jinping’s Leadership.” ■

ATHENS, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — The Greek edition of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was launched Tuesday in Athens, with more than 100 representatives from both countries attending the event.

Participants said the event provided an important platform for exchanges and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations. By sharing governance experience, they said, China and Greece enhanced understanding and built consensus, offering new ideas for expanding practical cooperation across various sectors and adding momentum to the steady growth of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Chinese representatives also introduced the strategic plans laid out at the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on expanding high-level opening-up. Greek scholars and guests said China has demonstrated the advantages and effectiveness of its governance through successive five-year plans for national economic and social development. They expressed hope to engage more deeply in China’s development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and share the opportunities it will bring.

Xie Gang, vice president of China International Communications Group, said the publication would help readers understand China’s governance in the new era — characterized by comprehensive reform, a people-centered approach, dialogue among civilizations and multilateralism in global governance. He said he hoped the book would strengthen mutual learning and practical cooperation between China and Greece.

Ioannis Tragakis, chairman of the Greece-China Friendship Group in the Greek parliament, recalled his 2019 meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said the launch honored an important work of political theory and further deepened bilateral friendship.

Concepts such as ecological civilization and a community with a shared future for humanity, he noted, offer guidance for addressing current global challenges. As nations with long histories and shared development aspirations, Greece and China should pursue creative and practical cooperation to promote global progress.

Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu said the book reveals the philosophical foundations of China’s governance, showcases China’s openness and inclusiveness, and highlights the contemporary value of exchanges among civilizations. He said the Greek edition would serve as a new bridge for cultural exchange, helping more Greek readers understand China’s governance philosophy, development path and domestic and foreign policies.

Former Greek foreign minister George Katrougalos elaborated on the people-centered development philosophy highlighted in the book, along with China’s long-term strategic planning and its role as a contributor to global stability. He said the four major global initiatives proposed by Xi set out a vision of openness, development and dialogue grounded in multilateralism, providing a philosophical basis for building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Experts from both countries held discussions on topics including green development, technological innovation, mutual learning among civilizations, openness and cooperation, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Xi Jinping: The Governance of China has been translated into 44 languages and distributed in more than 180 countries and regions, receiving wide recognition from international readers. ■

Abstract : When the 2025 Chishui River Forum opened in Maotai Town of Guizhou Province in southwest China, nearly 400 industry leaders, diplomats and business representatives gathered by the Chishui River to delve into the future of the global liquor industry.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) — When the 2025 Chishui River Forum opened in Maotai Town of Guizhou Province in southwest China, nearly 400 industry leaders, diplomats and business representatives gathered by the Chishui River to delve into the future of the global liquor industry.

Hailed as the “Davos of the liquor industry”, the Tuesday event featured in-depth discussions on topics including ecological conservation, Gen Z consumer engagement, and digital transformation. It also witnessed the launch of a series of key cooperative initiatives, forging greater consensus on the global liquor industry’s future development.

During its main forum, the “Global Fine Wines & Spirits Declaration of Chishui River” debuted with signatures from executives of 20 reputed Chinese and foreign liquor producers, initiating a campaign to jointly pursue a future of higher quality for liquor industry.

As an industry-wide transformation underscores competition of comprehensive value instead of mere flavor and brand rivalry, global liquor industry still faces common challenges, such as adapting to changing consumer preferences, navigating increasingly complex supply chains, and addressing climate-related pressures.

Under such circumstances, a batch of research outcomes including a think tank report on global liquor culture, famous Chinese and foreign liquors development index report, the ESG report of sauce-aroma baijiu production zone — Renhuai City of Guizhou, were released during the forum’s thematic sessions.

By establishing scientific evaluation benchmarks, these reports provide practical pathways and theoretical support for addressing the aforementioned industry challenges.

As the famous Chinese and foreign liquors development index report says, global liquor consumption scenarios are evolving rapidly toward family and casual settings, with younger generations favoring low-alcohol and health-oriented liquors.

Meanwhile, increasingly popular ready-to-drink (RTD) products, non-alcoholic beverages and fruit-flavored mixed drinks have also diverted part of the traditional liquor demand, according to the index report.

The younger generations are more in a pursuit of brand stories and experiences, therefore liquor producers need to engage them through interesting, interactive strategies and products, said Tadeusz Dorda, founder and CEO of Chopin Vodka.

Consumers are increasingly demanding high-quality, personalized liquor products rich in cultural connotations, which means advantageous production zones, brands, and products hold greater development potential, noted Qin Shuyao, president of China National Association for Liquor and Spirits Circulation.

Photo shows the venue for 2025 Chishui River Forum in Maotai Town of Renhuai City in Guizhou Province.

Chen Benrong, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Guizhou Provincial Committee, said the Chishui River Forum has built bridges of communication between different civilizations, adding that global liquor entrepreneurs could find more opportunities for win-win cooperation in Guizhou in the future.

Chen Hua, board chairman of Kweichow Moutai Group, one of the initiators of 2025 Chishui River Forum said that by establishing a global platform for dialogue in the liquor industry, the forum deepened mutual learning between different liquor production zones and contributed wisdom to the sustainable development of global liquor sector.

Abstract : China’s time-honored baijiu maker Shaanxi Xifeng Liquor Co., Ltd. has called for cultural confidence and quality consensus for domestic baijiu brands when exploring the global market.

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — China’s time-honored baijiu maker Shaanxi Xifeng Liquor Co., Ltd. has called for cultural confidence and quality consensus for domestic baijiu brands when exploring the global market.

The remark was made by Zhang Zhouhu, general manager of Xifeng, at the 2025 Chishui River Forum held recently in southwest China’s Guizhou Province.

Xifeng Liquor, one of China’s four famous traditional baijiu brands, boasts a liquor-making history of thousands of years and a distinctive Fengxiang aroma profile.

While adhering to the ancient craftmanship, Xifeng has also integrated modern technologies with its liquor-making process, injecting fresh vitality to its heritage craftmanship, said Zhang.

In Xifeng’s smart liquor-making workshop, sensors precisely control and adjust the micro-ecosystem of the liquor brewed with Xifeng’s unique “Laowuzeng” liquor-making process, while the final decision on aging of the liquor will be made by experienced blending masters, Zhang introduced.

Xifeng, with confidence in its craftmanship, has led the formulation of the national standard for the Fengxiang-flavored liquor and established research institute for the security of liquor-making materials and quality, creating a complete industrial system from raw materials to product quality, said Zhang.
