PPA S.A.: Visit of a Delegation of leading Port and Shipbuilding Organizations from Israel to the Port of Piraeus
In the context of the international Mare MED III Athens Conference 2026, held in Athens from 11 to 13 May 2026 under the auspices of Enterprise Greece, a meeting was held at the headquarters of PPA S.A. between executives of Piraeus Port Authority, led by the Deputy CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Angelos Karakostas, and a high-level delegation from Israel, with the aim of strengthening Greek-Israeli cooperation in the fields of ports, shipping and infrastructure.
The delegation included, among others, Mr. Shlomi Fogel, Chairman of Israel Shipyards, Mr. Zvika Schechterman, CEO of Israel Shipyards, as well as Mr. Hezi Halavia, Chairman of Israel Ports Company, and Mr. Pinhas Tsruya, CEO of Israel Ports Company. A meaningful exchange of views took place regarding the prospects for cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean, port infrastructure, the connectivity of trade corridors, and the new investment opportunities emerging in the region.
Emphasis was placed on the prospects created by the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a strategic initiative expected to upgrade connectivity between India, the Middle East and Europe. In this context, Greece and Israel are emerging as key partners and gateways for transit trade and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, with ports playing a decisive role in shaping new supply chains and trade flows.
During the meeting and the tour of the port facilities that followed, the shared intention to further develop synergies in the field of port development was reaffirmed, with the aim of strengthening economic cooperation and stability in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
